Thymio is a small mobile robot which can be defined as well as an educational tool as a toy. Its goal is to allow general public to discover the fascinating worls of robots and technology by programming it and by playing with its numerous functionalities.

A ready to use robot

Thymio comes out of its box already assembled, you can discover it without loosing one second!

How to turn it on? Press its round button for three seconds, and that's it. Yes, it's that simple.

It possesses six pre-programmed behaviours. Each mode corresponds to a colour. Friendly, in green it will follow your hand. Fearful, in red it will try to flee. Explorer, in yellow it will go discover the world that surrounds it. It can also follow a line on the ground, follow your order with a remote controller or even react to sounds.

Discover Thymio through its behaviours, it can already do a lot.

Program it with pictures

Discover programming in the easiest way thanks to the Visual Programming Language for Thymio (VPL). Download and install Aseba, plug Thymio to your computer, start Thymio VPL and take your first steps in programming.

How does it work? It's really easy. Drag and drop blocks of images in the center of the screen, adjust them so that they do what you want, press Play and that's it, you just programmed Thymio.

Program it with words

You already did a lot with VPL, you will be able to do even more with Aseba Studio and the textual programming.

Check the state of Thymio, access all its sensors, create plots in real time, your imagination has no limits anymore.

You need a step between images and text? Thanks to ThymioVPL, you can program in VPL and see the code generated automatically! The code on the left was generated with the VPL one just above.

Thymio, it's more than a robot. It's a community of users.

The whole project is "open-source", we encourage Thymio users to share their creations. That's why we created a website called a "Wiki". Everybody can edit it, everybody can add its contribution. It can be a creation done with Thymio, some advice, a wish, everybody is welcome in the community.

Precautions of use

  • Do not get it wet or get it under water
  • The charging process has to be done with the supervision of an adult
  • Contains small pieces. Not suitable for children under age 3.
  • Thymio contains a LiPo battery. Keep it far from fire or any heat source.
